Pine siskins. Peacefully sharing the feeder. The other day, they were fighting each other for space really aggressively. This bunch was just hanging out; I had no trouble getting close enough for a good shot.
Technical info: I was impressed by the clarity of this photo. It was taken with new equipment that arrived yesterday. This was taken with a Schneider-Kreuznach 150mm f/2.8 lens (shot at f/8 to give me more depth of focus; at f/2.8, the focus would have been very shallow).
Taken with the Phase One camera. Between the lens and the camera, I can get really sharp, crisp images with a lot of dynamic range. It takes a lot of effort to learn a new system, but I think it will be worth it in the long run. Right now, about one image out of five attempts works out as expected. A lot of issues with missed or wrong settings, but I will get used to the new controls over time.
Here’s a shot of a lone siskin who landed hard enough to make the feeder sway.
