Bird Fight!
Really. Pine Siskins are mean SOBs.
I sat with camera in hand, and to the eye, these bird fights are very brief and seem quite benign. But when I am able to freeze the action with a high-speed camera, I get a whole different picture. Literally; as above. Little monsters!
Here are a few more battles:
In the bottom right photo just above, one of the Siskins went back to a perch on the feeder, and the same bird that had just lost the fight attacked it again. They are massively competitive about food.
