What an entrance. This goldfinch was heading for a feeder and seems to have stopped to take a bow. Such grace.
Not to be outdone, this sparrow tries the same approach.
I have been working on ways to get decent photographs of birds in flight. It’s a challenge.
Unless the bird is flying roughly tangent to my view, they will only only be in the focus zone briefly. And, most common, they are a few inches too close or away from my focus zone. The camera just cannot refocus fast enough to capture a bird in flight. So I have been pre-setting focus, while continuing to explore what I can do with various focus tools int he camera.
Photographed with Son α1 and Son y 200-600mm lens, with 1.4 extender (so 840mm focal length). 1/1000th second to freeze motion, f/9 (that’s wide open with this setup), and ISO 800.
I think I probably need a gimbal mount in order to try to track the birds, or at least move quickly to where they are flying.
