We have been having odd, long, sunny summers in the Pacific Northwest for at least three years. I can remember when we sometimes had ‘summer’ for just two or three weeks—rain and cool days for most of what technically qualifies as summer.
Whether the cause is climate change or luck (aka, hysteresis), we have had three years now with months and months of sunshine, with hardly any rain at all.
Still, we are pretty far north here, and fall comes fairly early. The trees know their sun angles. So the maples are turning, and this one has a rich crop of strong yellows and oranges, along with some green in the shaded portions of the tree.
It was a nice splash of color, even though it means we’re headed to more than half a year of rain, clouds, and cold weather.
