One of the interesting things about digital photography is that it is pretty good at faithfully recording color. Some cameras are actually superb at color fidelity, but nearly all of them do a good job.
Film was a very different story 50 years ago; every color film had characteristic color differences. One might be warmer than reality, another might be cooler. Some had pale colors; some had rich color (especially slide film).
I applied a simulation of Ektar 100 film to the image above; see the straight out of camera version below.
There’s not a huge difference, but the brighter look, the warmer tones, etc. give the image a different feeling entirely. The film version is warm and feels like fall; the straight image is harsh and cool. Very different emotional content.
