I like doing close-up (macro) photography, and every now and then I find a new lens that looks like something I would enjoy working with.
This is that. Above: one of the few plums that our tree delivered this year. It had a rough year, we’ll be lucky to get a dozen plums. I’ve managed two that were just sweet enough to enjoy. This one fell off not yet ripe, but looks like it might be OK in a few days.
The ‘bubbles’ above are juices that leaked out and hardened. I assume birds peck at the fruit to see if it’s ready.
I test the new lens by taking the photo above. I used a Canon FD Macro that dates from the 70s (I have a thing for old-but-sharp lenses). They are inexpensive, and as the photo shows, they do an excellent job even by today’s standards.
