Heavy Rains; Rivers Rising
Our local stream, South Prairie Creek, is up from a trickle to a few feet below flood stage.
This is a shot of South Prairie Creek between the Town of South Prairie and Orting. This is a local swimming hole that is normally shallow enough for toddlers to enjoy the water; I’d guess it’s up about 4-6’ and still rising (rain is still heavy).
Same location above, looking left. That log was about 4-6’ above the water yesterday, and that is the source of my estimate of how much the water has risen so far.
Further upstream, there is a low area with a veteran’s trailer park; the remaining bank isn’t much, just a foot and a half when I took this picture. You can see just how much the little creek has spread out.
We live a few hundred feet above flood level ourselves, and I’m feeling grateful for that right now.
The rain had been predicted to stop about now, but it’s still coming down strong. Here’s hoping that it stops soon and people along the river are safe.
Thanks for the updates on the floods. It’s kind of heavy thinking of you and Mary and all of your neighbors. My phone tells me here in Ellensburg that there is flood watch all over your area. Thinking of you guys tonight sending you good juju.
