We have hummingbirds in our yard pretty much all year long. But most of the time I don’t see them because they are feeding where they aren’t easy to spot. But when the crocosmia flowers bloom (above), the hummers are front and center.
I literally set up a front row seat yesterday evening to get the shots you see here. I set myself up with a camp chair, my trusty Sony camera, and a 600mm lens to get up close and personal with the hummers.
The photos above are all clear and crisp, but this last one is my personal favorite. The hummer was partially hidden from view, but the extreme defocus of the 600mm lens softened the intervening branches and gives an ethereal glow to the scene.
Beautiful!
