Mt. Rainier was out for a few minutes today...
...and I got a photograph of it before the clouds hid it again.
While driving to Costco this morning, I noticed that the clouds that often haunt Mt. Rainier in the winter had parted. After I picked up some chicken soup and Hatch Chilis, I headed for a spot where I thought I might grab a quick shot.
It’s right in the ‘downtown’ part of Bonney Lake, WA, near Costco, gas stations, grocery stores, etc. All of that is hidden from view in the shot above, shot with the Sony 70-200mm lens at 200mm.
Here’s the scene with a wider zoom (70mm):
The spot was a small rise that has never been developed, although it has been cleared and that clearing gave me my shot.
The shot at the top of the page is a panorama of three images, taken handheld, and combined in Capture One software. ISO 100, 1/500th second, f/8.
The lens I took this with (Sony 70-200mm f/2.8) is a really sharp lens. There are four birds at upper left, maybe geese, flying in a line across the top of one of the photos; here’s a crop to give you some perspective:
What an amazing lens. Speaking of birds, I also caught two crows who were in a tree across the river, shot them the moment they took off (a crop of the full image):
