We have been eating at “the Rainier” for decades now. It has changed character somewhat over time, but a lot about it hasn’t changed. The dark interior, the crowded tables, the excellent staff. Highly recommended.
I had my camera with me at lunch the other day, and while watching our waitress tote up our bill, I realized the scene would make a good photo—warm light, warm colors, a single bright light. I used a very wide aperture—necessary in the darkness, but also to limit focus to a small area—and a 1/60th second exposure hand-held, a bit risky with the 85mm Canon lens. (Breathe in gently, and squeeze the shutter gently as you exhale.)
Very pleased with the photo; it reminds me of all the good things about the Rainier.
Interesting, then you have a long history was shooting interiors. I have often thought I might get to them as a painter. I think more acrylic on canvas then watercolor. We’ll see if I get to it in this life.
Nice one. I agree with Bryan. Also, this is a new direction for you. Interiors is a whole genre in its own right. I like this photo a lot.
