This is a re-think and a re-take of one of my favorite Mt. Rainier photos: with rural mailboxes.
This photo was taken near the end of January, when we finally got some clear weather after more than a week of heavy fog. I had taken a shot from this viewpoint with a wide-angle lens last sprint, and I wanted to reconstruct it and try to get the shot with a telephoto lens. The first photo with the wide lens is below.
I shot this with a 105mm lens, barely a telephoto, but much narrower than the 32mm I used for the original. It makes a big difference in the relationship between the foreground mailboxes and the background mounting—it brings the mountain up much closer.
This was shot at f/16 to get both the mountain and the mailboxes in good focus. Sony A7r IV at ISO 100, f/16, 1/400th second.
With the wide lans, the mountain is barely visible, but I was standing in almost the exact same place. I love both photos, but they are very different beasts.
