Stellar Steller's Jay

All hopped up, and dressed for success.

We don’t see Steller’s Jays every day, but it’s always a treat when one shows up. They tend to hang out for a while, visiting various trees, especially fruit trees. They also make a try for the feeders, but the feeders we have are for songbirds, and the Steller’s are too big to perch on them.

This jay could be perching on air, but I caught him mid-hop. After several more mid-air maneuvers, the jay took a bow, sort of…
