This was one of the last shots of the day on my recent visit to the ‘little forest’ in Bonney Lake, WA. It’s not as flashy (or fishy) as some of the others, but it just struck me as a really pretty subject, and I thought I’d share it.
The look of the shot relies very heavily on the physics of the Zeiss Otus 100mm f/1.4 lens. I shot with the lens wide open at f/1.4, which provides a very small depth of field—most of the field is out of focus, with just the front face of the stump and a few leaves sharply focused.
This lens is also wonderful for capturing subtle color, but I should admit that I have increased the contrast some to get a photograph rather than a picture. ;)
