The day after the big storm, rivers and streams were already at lower water. This is the Carbon River between South Prairie and Orting; the spot where I was standing was a few feet above the water level, and had marks of heavy flow on it.
The sky broke open here and there; a shaft of sunlight lit up the fall colors right in front of me while I was hiking along the river.
The water is a curious mix of colors: blue from the sky, and red mud from all the loose soil scoured up by the heavy flow.
