Sunset in Seattle
After two days of heavy rains that have flooded local farms, a beautiful sunset.
We had some of the heaviest rain I’ve seen in the Seattle area over the weekend. There is flooding along many rivers. We live in a rural area, and farms and roads are under varying amounts of water today.
How had was it? The creek below our house was a river. Flood stage is 4000 cubic feet per second of water (4000cfps); the flood waters peaked at almost double that, 7600cfps.
The creek/river split itself north of our place, as shown in this drone photo I took this afternoon. The secondary river is flowing through fields west of us:
It was far worse further downstream; farms were flooded from one side of the valley to the other, and the highway was closed for a good chunk of the day.
The good news is that these farm fields benefit from the nutrients that the flood waters leave behind. I wasn’t able to get into the areas where flooding was the worst; I hope the damage wasn’t extreme. We’ll know more tomorrow.
Thanks for the update. Worse flooding than the news reported. You and Donna are okay? What a sunset!
