The Old Pumpkin Patch
No idea why so many pumpkins got left behind; there's a story in this somewhere.
There’s a farm stand in Orting, WA that is open during the summer, where you can buy fresh produce. The fields behind the stand were planted with pumpkins, and there are hundreds and hundreds of pumpkins left in the field.
I’ve had my eye on the patch for a photo shoot, but never got around to it until yesterday. For some reason, the pumpkins are still there. These are the big ones, some of the several feet in diameter.
Most of the pumpkins are in great shape. Here’s a perfect one among some friends on the ground.
And this oversize one caught my eye:
And here’s one that looks like I took the picture with a flash, but it was only the sun popping out for only a few seconds while I was taking the photo.
All photos shot with Sony α1 camera and Sony 70-200mm lens.
While I was walking amongst the gourds, another fellow pulled over and started to root around int he field. When I talked to him, he said he was looking for cracked-open pumpkins so that he could collect the seeds for his wife. He thought she might know how to activate them so they would sprout in the spring…
I don’t know about that, but Donna did save the seeds from grandson William’s pumpkin carving to roast later on.
